Yarn Spinning

Upon reception, the containers are unloaded and boxes are randomly inspected. We verify that the garments’ style, size and color correspond to the box identification (barcode). The selected garments are thoroughly inspected to ensure that there is no sewing defect and that dimensions conform to Gildan's specifications. This constitutes the last inspection before warehousing and shipping.

Knitting

The quality controls are performed on the greige fabric before dyeing, to ensure that every roll dyed conforms to our standards specifications. These controls consist in removing any knitting defects and verifying the main characteristics of the knit, such as the number of courses per inch, the weight and the width of the fabric.

Dyeing and finishing

The knitted rolls are dyed or bleached to give the
final colour to the garment. Each colour is measured and must match the established Gildan standards tolerances. A softener is applied on the fabric to enhance its softness and the fabric is pre-shrunk to avoid further shrinkage when washed. After the last step, we control the compaction ratio, the width, the weight and the final color of the fabric to ensure the product conformity.

Cutting

Before being sewn, the fabric is cut to create the different parts constituting the garment (body, sleeves, hood, etc.). Colour matching between the different components and dimensions of the cut parts is systematically analyzed to ensure that any bundle sent to sewing complies with Gildan standards. When the products have been stamped “CONFORM,” the cut parts are wrapped into bundles and shipped to the sewing plants to be assembled.

Sewing

The different parts of the material are assembled to form the garment. Each garment is individually inspected to ensure there is no defect. After sewing, the garments are placed into cardboard boxes and sent to distribution centres. Before being shipped, boxes are randomly audited by external auditors independent from the sewing plants for AQL control.
