Production Automation

One of our greatest strengths is our network of state of the art production facilities. All of our knitting, bleaching, dying, and packaging utilize the latest technology available. An example of this is the truly revolutionary Sangiacomo Toe Closing knitting machine. This machine knits the sock and also closes the toe during the same process. We are the first company to use these machines in the United States. Another recent innovation in the finishing process is the Todd Motion Control automatic sock processing machine. This machine does every job after the sock is bleached from boarding to packaging.

With the use of approximately 2,500 knitting machines, Prewett produces an average of 600,000 dozen pairs of socks each week.

To prepare for peak production periods, we have implemented an inventory management system that is based on forecast data provided by our customers. For most accounts, we maintain stock programs based on projected usage so that orders are turned around in a matter of days. Most of our plants work three shifts, five days per week. During peak seasons, it is common for our plants to work six days per week. Our shipping facility operates 51 weeks, closing only the week of Christmas.
